Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is a transfer target for Doncaster Rovers and a loan deal could go through before the weekend. New Rovers boss Dean Saunders is clearly keen to make his mark at the Keepmoat Stadium after replacing Sean O'Driscoll, having targeting a number of well known players to bolster the club's playing squad. Kirkland's exit is unlikely to be blocked by Roberto Martinez as he has no shortage of options in the goalkeeping department with Ali Al Habsi firmly established now as the Latics number one. The former Liverpool and West Brom stopper has fallen down the pecking order at the DW Stadium and he would welcome the chance to play regular again, albeit it in the Championship. The switch is likely to be finalised before Saturday to allow him to make his debut for Rovers in a Yorkshire derby against Leeds United. Saunders has already swooped for former Latics defender Pascal Chimbonda on a free transfer since taking the job, while Herita Ilunga has arrived on loan from West Ham.
